Abstract

It is a fact well known that the oriental colonists are counted among the factors that contributed in a significant waz to the spread of christianity in the Roman world. But the answer to the question „what kind of influence did they have on this subject?” still remains to be found. In an epoch of significant transformations in the field of religious mentalities, like the 3rd century was, the influence of the orientals could have been greater than we know. This study tries to find some answers to the issue of the spreading of christianity in Pannonia via the syrian colonists that were brought in the province at the end of the Second Marcomannic War, focusing on the case of 3rd century christians in the Valcum (Fenekpusta) latifundia, south of Balaton Lake.
