Abstract

This year we will celebrate a century since Romania’s establishment within its natural boundaries and the completion of the state unity, reaching a valuable ideal for its people. Following a thorough research, we intended to highlight the contribution that the people from Șișești had within this national movement, whose purpose was to free the Romanian population in Transylvania and Hungary. We believe it is necessary to present a few details that we have managed to find until now, details which refer to the memorandists from Șișești who were part of the delegation led by the priest dr. Vasile Lucaciu. These were the people from the delegation who handed in the Romanian Memorandum in Vienna, a document through which they officially wanted to inform the king and the occidental political groups on the aspirations of the Romanians in Transylvania, including their goal to protest against the violence and abuse they were subjected to by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The memorandist movement was the most ample and efficient form of fight for the freedom of the Romanian people in Ardeal at the end of the XIXth century.
